CALL FOR PRESENTATIONS
The Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom and the University of Macedonia, School of Balkan, Slavic and Oriental Studies, organize an international conference on Europe in the post-pandemic era. The Conference will be held at Thessaloniki, Greece on 19-21 November, 2021.
The title of the Conference is “From the Cold War and the Marshall Plan to the pandemic and the EU Recovery Fund: Reconstruction, Development and Freedom.”
The conferees are expected to deal with the historical aspects of European development, analyze comparatively the two cases and pursue useful conclusions for the present and the future. In addition, the overall picture of the current situation in the period of transition after the pandemic, at the political, social, economic and diplomatic level should receive special attention.
Organizers
The Program Committee is now accepting submissions via Email of abstracts for 15-minute individual presentation, panels (of up to four 15-minute papers), and special sessions. Submissions from all disciplines in the Social Sciences and from interdisciplinary fields are welcome; comparative perspectives are encouraged.

Proposed Themes
Proposals may concern aspects of EU politics in a wide range of topics, debating similarities and differences between the Marshall Plan and the EU Recovery Plan:
- Europe in a post-COVID political crossroad
- Reconstruction, development and freedom
- The future of liberal politics
- Context and policy-making from the Marshall Plan to the EU Recovery Plan
- Sustainable Growth and development Looking for sustainable environmental policies
- The system of social market economy
- Europe in the world
- The EU in the new International Relations
- China, Russia and Europe
- East and Southeast Europe: perspectives and challenges in a strategic region
- Societies in transition: migration, culture and diversity
- The new generation in a changing Europe
Young Researchers Workshop
In the context of the Conference, the Organizing Committee is also inviting young researchers, PhD students and interested young individuals to participate in the “Young Researches Workshop” that will be held on November 21, 2021.
GENERAL GUIDELINES AND INFORMATION
Abstracts
Each presentation abstract should explain briefly the scope and focus of the proposed topic, and it should not exceed 250 words. Jointly authored abstracts and papers are welcome.
The abstract should include: name(s) of the presenter(s), affiliation, Email, mobile phone number, and whether they need accommodation/transportation.

Accommodation and Travelling
The organizers will provide accommodation in single rooms for the participants who are traveling to Thessaloniki, as well as meals during the conference. There is also a limited capability for covering travel expenses (air tickets, bus or train). Candidates who require accommodation/transfer support should state it in their application/abstract.
