Labour Markets in Exchange: India and Germany

Hamburg, Germany – India Week Hamburg 2023 will witness a significant exploration of the labour markets in India and Germany, with a special focus on the circular exchange of skilled professionals. The Friedrich Naumann Foundation (FNF), in collaboration with the Consulate General of India (CGI) in Hamburg, is set to organise a session addressing the strategic issues of education, international cooperation, and the German-Indian Migration and Mobility Agreement signed in December 2022.

Taking place on 23 November 2023, the event aims to provide insights into the challenges and opportunities presented by the exchange of skilled professionals between the two nations. It targets a young and performance-oriented audience, emphasising the real-world implications of the Migration and Mobility Agreement.

Key participants include His Excellency, Mr Parvathaneni Harish, Ambassador of India to the Federal Republic of Germany, Michael Kruse, Member of German Bundestag and Ms Vanessa Ahuja, Director of Services and International Affairs, Federal Employment Agency, Germany. The event will be moderated by Mr Bernhard Steinrücke, Indo-German Society, Germany.

In addition to the Migration and Mobility Agreement discussion, the session will feature a panel on "Migration of Skilled Professionals in Practice: Life stories of the migrated professionals." Moderated by Ms Lena Schiller, CEO of House of Leadership, the panel will include speakers such as Mr Thorsten Meier, CEO of Alfa Personnel Care, Hamburg; Mr Harshad Dev, YouTuber/Influencer, Berlin; Mr Henning Fehrmann, Fehrmann Tech Group, Hamburg; and Mr Deepak Kapoor, Managing Director of Gujarat Fluorochemicals GmbH.

The session aligns with the broader goals of India Week Hamburg, fostering cultural, economic, and social ties between India and Germany. The event promises to be a dynamic platform for dialogue, providing valuable perspectives from government officials, business leaders, and professionals who have successfully navigated the migration journey.
