Last weekend (02/09), ARK (Akademi Keadilan) conducted a workshop entitled “Women Leadership in Politics and VBP”. The workshop was held at Geno Hotel in Shah Alam, Selangor. It was attended by 50 women, who held (or will soon hold) positions in Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) in the state of Selangor.

The workshop began with an Icebreaking session for the participants to get to know each other. This was followed by an Introduction to Value-Based Politics by Raiyana Abdul. She explained the concept, its meaning and the significance particularly in the context of Malaysia. She linked VBP to PKR’s vision to make Malaysia a better society. She also tested the participants on what the best criteria would be in choosing a leader; their wealth? Their principals? Their moral values? Their vision?

The next session was on ‘’Strategy and Leadership’’ which was presented by Dr. Rahim Ghouse, a mentor at Invoke. In his session, he covered Sun Tzu's Art of War and provided practical tips on how to apply Sun Tzu's lessons. He gave examples from his own experiences and explained how he applied Sun Tzu's teachings in his own political work. He also advised the participants to always think about how to do new things and how to do their work differently.

We then had a break for lunch and prayers. After the break, we continued with the Group Work session. The session was conducted by YB Rodziah Ismail, an EXCO for the Selangor State Government. Her session covered the 5Ms in Campaign Management. She provided the participants with data, to which she gave practical exercises on how to develop strategies based on the data available. She also encouraged the participants to further enhance their leadership capabilities to enable them to do more for PKR and their communities.

The workshop ended on Sunday night.
