CALD and FNF meet East Timor´s President Ramos-Horta
A delegation of the Council of Asian Liberal and Democrats (CALD) met the President of the Republic of Timor-Leste, José Ramos-Horta, in Dili on July 17th. “We discussed the political situation in East Timor and in ASEAN. We also spoke about the situation in Myanmar”, said CALD-Chair Francis Pangilinan of the Liberal Party of the Philippines. Pangilinan was accompanied by CALD`s General Secretary Francis Abaya and CALD Program Manager Paolo Zamora. Moritz Kleine-Brockhoff, Head of the Regional Office Southeast and East Asia of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom, was also present. The CALD delegation was in East Timor to speak to several political parties. CALD seeks to expend its network.
“During their deliberations, the delegation sought to acquaint President Ramos-Horta with the Council of Asian Liberal and Democrats, while also extending a cordial invitation to political parties from Timor to join this esteemed organization”, reported East Timor´s newspaper Suara Timor Lorosae. “Among the topics that resonated during the meeting was the pressing conflict in Myanmar. The esteemed participants voiced their ardent support and unwavering efforts to inspire the youth of the region to actively safeguard and champion the principles of democracy and liberalism.”
