The 10th Greek-Turkish Young Leaders Symposium (GTYLS), organized by the Global Academy, the Center for European and International Studies (CIES), and the Institute of International Relations at the Panteion University of Athens (IDIS), in partnership with the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom-Türkiye, NATO’s Public Diplomacy Division, the International Relations Council of Türkiye, Columbia Global Center - İstanbul, and EdoTourkia, was held at Kadir Has University, İstanbul, Türkiye, from October 7-9, 2024.

The symposium brought together academics, researchers, university students, and young participants (aged 20-40) from Greece and Türkiye, with 15 participants from each country. They discussed regional issues, including security, democracy, and the future of Greek-Turkish relations, aiming to strengthen ties between the two nations.

The event opened with speeches from symposium coordinators Prof. Mustafa Aydın from Kadir Has University, İstanbul, and Dimitrios Triantaphyllou from Panteion University, Athens. Participants engaged in various panel sessions and workshops featuring academicians and journalists throughout the three-day event. The topics covered ranged from NATO to regional security dynamics involving China, the USA, and the European Union.

The symposium provided a platform for young leaders from Türkiye and Greece to participate in panels led by scholars and journalists. These panels addressed critical issues such as freedom, democracy, media, Greek-Turkish relations, and the rule of law in a changing global order.

Aside from the enriching daily panels, the event also featured focus group workshops. These workshops were designed to equip participants with the skills and knowledge to develop projects that could further strengthen relations between Greek and Turkish communities. The symposium concluded with the presentation of these group projects, showcasing the practical outcomes of the event, and the awarding of certificates to participants, recognizing their commitment and contribution.

This year’s symposium not only facilitated productive discussions but also strengthened the bonds between Greek and Turkish participants. It inspired collaborative projects for a brighter future and encouraged continued joint efforts to address regional challenges, underscoring the shared commitment of the participants.
