Organising the Coexistence of Central Bank Digital Currencies and Private Stablecoins
Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDCs) and private stablecoins are two novel types of digital currencies, which rely on new payment systems. Nowadays, they are the two most credible instruments able to deeply reshape financial markets. To improve global welfare, their coexistence must be well thought out. Nevertheless, many reading grids usually lead various experts to come to different conclusions on the question of the coexistence of emerging digital currencies. The following policy report – derived from a workshop entitled “Organizing CBDCs-and-Private-Stablecoins Coexistence” and organized by the Centre de Politique Européenne-Paris (November 29, 2022) – considers them all to establish core principles for coexistence.
This publication is the result of a high-level workshop that took place during the Dialogue of Continents forum.
