FNF and LeGePe Coordination Meeting on Empowering Communities in Central Java Province
Friedrich Naumann Foundation (FNF) Indonesia had the opportunity to meet with the Institute of Empowerment Movement (LeGePe) in Semarang on 4-6 April 2024. LeGePe has been an important civil society partner of FNF since 2016. The cooperation between the two organizations focuses on strengthening democracy, promoting good governance, and fostering empowerment for the communities of Central Java Province.
The meeting focused on the planned activities for 2024, including civic education, economic empowerment of farmers, fishermen and SME’s, as well as training for community empowerment facilitators. These initiatives aim to enhance public understanding of democracy and civic participation, advance the local economy, and foster economic and political empowerment in society.
In addition to discussing this year’s program activities, FNF and LeGePe also conducted field visits to Fishermen’s Business Entity (BUMNel) in Magersari village and the SMEs specializing in palm sugar production in Limbangan village, Kendal. These two locations are part of LeGePe’s development initiatives in cooperation with FNF.

During these field visits, FNF and LeGePe also had the opportunity to visit Semanding village in Kendal, a cultural village that still preserves local traditions and cultural heritage. This village holds potential for economic development particularly in cultural tourism and agriculture. FNF also visited Palm Sugar SME Producers in Limbangan, Kendal.
This meeting underlined the importance of collective action in driving meaningful change within communities. Through their united efforts, FNF and LEGEPE will continue to make meaningful impact towards empowering the communities of Central Java Province.
