The Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom in Jordan participated in COP29 to address the urgent link between climate change and displacement. Lilian Haddad, the Refugees Unit Project Coordinator, led discussions on the challenges and advocated for sustainable solutions to support vulnerable communities in the MENA Region.

Key Sessions on Climate and Displacement

Lilian led two insightful sessions: Climate and Displacement of Refugees and Migrants in MENA and Climate in Conflict Areas.
"The human cost of climate change is evident in the growing displacement crises," she remarked during one session. These discussions examined how environmental changes contribute to forced migration and affect communities already living in precarious conditions. Participants explored practical, region-specific strategies to mitigate the impact of climate-induced crises.

Youth Workshop in the Green Zone

In the Green Zone, a workshop titled MENA Climate and Refugee Nexus brought together young participants from diverse backgrounds. "Youth are the catalysts for innovative solutions," Lilian emphasised, reflecting on the event’s focus on fostering cross-border collaboration.

Aligned with Jordan’s Ministry of Environment and His Majesty King Abdullah II’s initiative, the workshop created a platform for interactive dialogue on innovative approaches to the intersection of climate and displacement challenges.
