30 Facts on 30 Years of German Unity
October 3, 2020 marks the thirtieth anniversary of the Day of German Unity. In a few years Germany, which was reunited in 1990, will have existed longer than its divided predecessor. These experiences have allowed Germans to further grow together. The terms "East" and "West" are becoming increasingly blurred. But that this would happen was not a given.

United Nations of Innovation: Making a Difference with Digital Democracy
My key takeaway from the conference was that both digital and physical spaces are extremely important to promote democracies and citizen participation. Through inspiring stories shared by the panelist and participants, I learned practical examples of how technology has enabled these digital and physical spaces to be built globally by multiple parties, from government, non-government organizations to private citizens looking to make a difference.

Malaysia’s Brave New World: Democracy and Digitalization
Last month I was invited to attend a conference related to democracy and digitalization, titled ‘Safeguarding Freedom in the Digital World’ in Gummersbach, Germany. I think democracy in the digital world and democracy in the physical world exist in a different framework of discourse and approach. The idea of democracy itself surpassed thousands of years, but digitalization is still a growing infant within the womb of democracy. Few know how it works, and this proved to be largely different hurdles than democracy in the real world.

IDEAS Public Lecture: The Future of Liberal Democracy in Asia
On the 1st of November 2019, The Institute for Democracy and Economic Affairs (IDEAS) organised a public lecture that discussed on the future of liberal democracy in Asia. The event featured presentations by Professor Alexander Goerlach, Founder of Save Liberal Democracy and Dr Bridget Welsh, Honorary Research Associate from University of Nottingham Asia Research Institute Malaysia. After both speakers had presented, a panel discussion moderated by Keith Leong was then held.
