Replication Resources Management and Environmental Protection
The program on Replication Resources Management and Environmental Protection workshop was held at Beringgis Beach Resort, Kinarut, Sabah, on 29th-30th April 2017. Overall, 21 participants participated in the program which from the Faculty of Science Resources, Universiti Malaysia Sabah, Malaysia. Most of the participants are coming from various backgrounds of studies such as Tropical Forestry, Forestry Plantation, Timber Industry and Natural Parks and Recreation.
Nevertheless, the program was conducted by Mr. Mohammad Khairul Afiq Bin Abdullah, who is an alumnus of the International Academy of Leadership. On top of that, 4 modules were implemented. The session began with Ice-Breaking processed to get the participants acquainted with each other and proceed with a briefing about the program and find out the expectation of participants on the programs they participate in.
The session continues with 4 modules over two days. For instances, we discussed what is the Resource Management and Environmental Protection, Environmental and Resource Problem and the effectiveness of policy, Free Market Environmentalism and end up with World Cafe session.
Nevertheless, the session proceeds to formed a group to discuss environmental issues in Malaysia with regards to understanding, concerning the environment, policy, and economic. Participants were also discussed about Resources and Environment Problems and how the role of policy support by several topics and agencies as following:
Deforestation, soil degradation/Food production, water management and biodiversity. The trainer also exposes participants on Free Market Environmentalism. Free Market Environmentalism (FME) as an approach to environmental problems that focuses on improving environmental quality using property rights and markets. It emphasizes three important points:
a) Markets, property rights and the rule of law are fundamental to economic growth, and economic growth is fundamental to improving environmental quality.
b) Property rights make the environment an asset rather than a liability by giving owners an incentive for stewardship.
c) Markets and the process of exchange give people who have different ideas and values regarding natural resources a way to cooperate rather than fight.
At the end of the workshop, participants who were exposed to the module expected to able to form a new value to their environmental conservationists who are prepared with extra knowledge to solve problems and conflicts on the environment for sustainable.
