A total of more than 2,700 delegates attended the 2018 Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) National Congress, which took place from 16-18 November 2018 at the Ideal Convention Centre (IDCC) in Shah Alam. These 2,700 delegates were sent by the 217 divisions of the party nationwide, as well as representatives of the Women and Youth wings.

The theme of the 13th PKR National Congress was ‘Understanding Democracy, Translating Democracy’, was very significant and in line with PKR’s position today as one of the ruling parties in Pakatan Harapan (PH).

Azmin Ali who won 51.82% of the votes retained his position for the Deputy President of the Party after defeating his challenger Rafizi Ramli (48.18%) in the party polls.

Anwar Ibrahim who won uncontested in the PKR election recently was officially declared as the Party President today for the term 2018-2021, replacing Dr. Wan Azizah Wan Ismail. Anwar, who could be said to be the reason PKR was formed 20 years ago, has now officially assumed the position of Party President after winning it uncontested on nomination day and is no longer the Party’s appointed ‘de facto leader’. Naturally, now that he is back in power, he has abolished the ‘de facto leader’ post that was created for him in 2007.

But his wife, former Party President, Dr. Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, will not be forgotten after party delegates approved her appointment as the first-ever chairman of a new Advisory Council for the Party.

With the longest electoral process in the country, stretching over nine weeks, PKR polls uses the first-ever use of electronic voting nationwide.
