Sharing Experience by IAF Course Attendee: HELLO GUMMERSBACH!!

First of all, I would like to thank the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for the opportunity given, useful workshop, excellent facilities, facilitators and interesting participants from Latin America, Africa, Asia, Middle East and Europe.

The workshop organized by International Academy for Leadership (IAF) was attended by representatives of political parties and NGOs with similar ideological perspectives.

The workshop, titled “Coalition Building and Strategic Partnership” was particularly relevant to Malaysian political scenarios in anticipation of the coming 14th General Election.

The workshop contents included the different types of coalitions and presentations by fellow participants based on real cases from different regions of the world, strategic planning in the context of coalitions, types of coalition, creating coalitions: fundamentals and criteria, negotiation: rules and techniques and their application through negation simulation exercises, data harvesting and management for appropriate internal and external handling of the full coalition cycle and coalition management and exit strategies.

The exchange of experience amongst participants from different parts of the world is particularly more valuable thus helped to create new ideas and innovative solutions.

We also visited the Parliament of North-Rhine Westphalia and have a discussion with Mr.Rainer Matheisen, a member parliament from FDP. The topic focused on the coalition government between FDP and CDU.

My most valuable memories was when we visited the city Cologne and Gummersbach with other participants who came from different countries with different languages, but we could be together as a team; a team for freedom.
