Sisters in Islam had a story writing competition which was made open to the public between the ages of 18-30 years old.  The age was limited to align Sisters in Islam focus in raising the voices of youth regarding issues affecting women in Malaysia.  The competition invited submissions for short stories on women’s experiences in Malaysia.  The stories should depict experiences in dealing with gender biases and discrimination, and a compelling story for women’s empowerment.  We were interested to have stories that addressed issues of significance to women’s lives and especially interested in pieces that explore issues of race, class, and sexuality in relation to gender.

The stories will be posted on our social media. The winners of the competition will be given an expense paid study trip to a literary festival, most likely the Georgetown Literary Festival, to give them an opportunity to engage with established and budding literalists from Malaysia and around the world.
