Zunar in Berlin "How Can I be Neutral, Even My Pen Has a Stand!"
ZULKIFLEE ANWAR HAQUE, better known as ZUNAR to Malaysians, is a cartoonist who has been drawing editorial cartoons for the past 20 years in Malaysia.
Late June 2016, he is Invited by the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom, visited Berlin. Malaysia´s most prominent cartoonist met Dr. Bärbel Kofler, Human Rights Envoy of the Government of Germany at the Foreign Ministry.
"Taking a stand for #pressfreedom and against #corruption in #Malaysia with #Zunar @zunarkartunis #HumanRights", tweeted Dr. Kofler.
Zunar also joined a panel discussion at the Berlin office of Reporters without Borders, which was moderated by Moritz Kleine-Brockhoff, FNF Project Director Malaysia. Later on, Zunar met German Cartoonists and representatives of Amnesty International. German Broadcaster Deutsche Welle reported about Zunar´s visit to Berlin.

Zunar, a critic of Malaysia´s government, has won several prestigious international awards. Issues featured in his cartoons include corruption and the imprisonment of Malaysia´s Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim. Zunar has been charged under Malaysia´s notorious Sedition Act and, if found guilty, faces 43 years in prison himself. He is out on bail, his court case will proceed later this year. Amnesty International has gathered 250.000 signatures in support of Zunar. "How Can I be Neutral, Even My Pen Has a Stand!", he says. "I will keep drawing till the last drop of my ink."
