Natálie Maráková joined the Prague office of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom in October 2019. Previously she worked for a Czech non-profit organisation CEVRO where she participated in organization of programs of political education and democracy assistance for democratic leaders and CSOs from all around the world. After graduation in International Politics and Diplomacy at the University of Economics, Prague, she experienced a five-month internship at German Parliament. She speaks English, German and a little Spanish.

“Not a single one more”: Poles protest against strict abortion law
In Poland, thousands of people took to the streets in response to the death of a pregnant woman that many blame on the strict Polish abortion law. The 30-year-old Izabela died at a Polish hospital in Pszczyna, southern Poland, in September after suffering septic shock. The activists blame the near-total abortion ban introduced by the Constitutional Tribunal, often seen as an illegitimate body.

Old Problems and No Solution
Today, the European Commission will publish its annual Rule of Law Report, in which it systematically examines the separation of powers, media diversity and the independence of the judiciary in all 27 EU countries. The new report could deepen existing conflicts. So far, however, there have been no consequences from the ranking.

Through the eyes of seven extraordinary personalities, the documentary “Politics Is for Other People” by the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom outlines the stories of emerging liberal movements in Central and Southeast Europe. The documentary explains the drivers of liberal parties in the region, their challenges, ambitions, and perspectives. The documentary will celebrate its social media premiere on July 7th.

National Law Over EU Law? The Legal Dispute Between Poland and the EU Is Dragging On
Today, the Polish Constitutional Tribunal was to hear the question of whether the Disciplinary Chamber of Poland's Supreme Court can continue to operate despite an interim measure from the European Court of Justice. The hearing was originally expected in April, and has now been postponed for the third time. A ruling against the ECJ would mean undermining the functioning of the EU legal system.
