Freedom Barometer: New Webpage - New Outreach

The new Freedom Barometer website

Since the Western Balkan region adopted in 2013 the idea of the Freedom Barometer from FNF Southeast Asia, the need for an easily expandable and more flexible webpage emerged. Based upon the three pillars of political freedom, economic freedom and the rule of law, the Barometer is an excellent tool to measure progress and regression in these fields. But why should such a global tool be limited to the Western Balkan countries alone? Wouldn’t it be more compelling to be able one day to compare all 28 countries of the region Central, East and Southeast Europe?

With the financial support of the European Liberal Forum (ELF), the Freedom Barometer has made a decisive step in this direction: the new FB page was developed to combine the already existing figures for Southeast Asia and the Western Balkans and to allow for limitless expandability for every FNF project country worldwide. This new webpage offers a spectrum of different options to choose. In the map section, all country data is conveniently available with one click. With another click you can get all the background reports and news. The welcome page already allows you to quickly compare the region’s countries. Infographics break down numbers and results and could be easily used in your presentations about a particular country or the entire region. Insights and comparisons are easily sharable.

This webpage is the starting point for Facebook and Twitter activities. The interaction between social media and a more static webpage brings in new interest groups, not necessarily related to our work. Thus www.freedombarometer.org has a realistic chance to become a new flagship for the Foundation’s activities in the region.
