Please share a few words about yourself?
My name is Ela Mikhelson and I am from Frankfurt/Main.I am very happy to be working for the FNF again – my first time working for the foundation was in Washington, DC six years ago.I studied Political Science at the Goethe University in Frankfurt/Main and then moved to Washington, DC for my Master’s degree at the American University.Prior to joining the FNF team in Sofia, I worked in Chisinau, Moldova.
What have been your first impressions so far from your position in FNF?
I just recently joined the FNF office in Sofia as the Assistant to the Regional Director for East and Southeast Europe, Dr. Rainer Adam.I am looking forward to learning more about the FNF’s work not only in Bulgaria, but throughout the entire region, as well as to learn more about the numerous events we organize to promote liberal values.
What is most interesting and challenging about your new position in FNF?
As the Assistant to the Regional Director, I am working as a `connector’ between the regional office and the project offices in the region, as well as with all the other departments within the foundation and our external partners.

Given your background so far, what and how would you contribute to the mission of FNF and pursuit of Freedom?
Given my previous experience at the FNF’s office in Washington, DC and my other professional work experience in Moldova, I have gained an extensive knowledge of the history and culture of Eastern Europe, which I think is important in working for the FNF in Bulgaria. Additionally, I am a very organized, structured, and reliable person and I will do my very best to support and promote the FNF’s work in the entire region.
Why is the promotion of Freedom important to you?
Being able to fulfill one’s own potential, both for self-fulfillment and for the good of society.
