The 'Badawi case' is about nothing less than the universal validity of human rights. More than seventy years after the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the rights we take for granted are unfortunately the exception rather than the rule in the Arab world.

Raif Badawi has been imprisonment. In 2012, he was sentenced to ten years in prison, 1,000 public lashes and a fine for insulting Islam. He was released from prison on March 11, 2022.
