Sim Democracy Introductory Session

Sim Democracy Introductory Session

Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom (FNF) Korea office has organized the introductory session for Sim Democracy on Feb. 04 in Seoul, together with FNF Thailand and the Youth Forum for Future. Sim Democracy is a traditional board game developed by FNF Thailand as an interactive tool for young adults and first-time voters to gain a better understanding of the basic functioning of democratic community and of public policy.

During the event attended by about 16 university students, the presentation on the board game and detailed instructions on its rules were given by the FNF staff from Thailand.  The participants enjoyed games with great fun, taking on different roles in the political system such as government or civil society representatives. They played the game under simulation of several political scenarios ranging from national elections to budget allocation or the handling of crisis situations.  At the end of the game, participants exchanged their impressions on the game, all very positive.

Since its launch in 2011, the game has witness a great success in Thailand covering more than 120 schools, and it now spreads into other countries, such as Malaysia, Bhutan, Indonesia as well as Korea.  With the success of the introductory session, FNF Korea is planning to offer more democracy education programs to young Koreans, using creative and participatory tools, i.e. Sim Democracy.
