Interview with Miguel Gutiérrez, Deputy of Ciudadanos in the Spanish Congress.

"Spain is the gate to a migratory phenomenon that goes to the rest of Europe". With this sentence, Miguel Gutiérrez, Deputy of Ciudadanos in the Spanish Congress, hints at the urgency of a consensual response by the Member States to the migration issue.

In recent months, Ciudadanos has put on the table various proposals to address the migratory challenges the EU is facing. More transparency in migration policies and close cooperation with countries of origin and transit are the cornerstones for implementing effective solutions in this regard.

How to cope with the growing migratory pressure evidenced by the arrival of more than 23.000 migrants in the Canary Islands in 2020?

Miguel Gutiérrez stresses that the European liberal family continues to demand the harmonization of proposals and political action on migration that is a fundamental pillar to achieve the long-awaited European consensus. Likewise, the Deputy of Ciudadanos invites other Member States to look towards the cooperation on migration that Spain has established with the Kingdom of Morocco, a prime example of the importance of strengthening the agreements with countries of transit and origin.
