Background: Vietnam - New planning of the media landscape

After 16 years, the Socialist Republic of Vietnam wants to introduce a new media law. On September 17th, Nguyen Bac Son, Minister of the Ministry of Information and Communication presented the final draft of the law to the National Assembly. Because of many "sensitive" issues, the new draft law went through the "longest and most careful" preparatory phase. The process began 9 years ago and has since been examined twice by the Politburo and twice by the Central Committee of the Communist Party.
