Event
(19.4.2023) The EU-India Trade Negotiations
About the Event
The Brussels Office of the German Institute for International and Security Affairs (Stiftung Wissenschaft und Politik, SWP) and the European Dialogue Programme of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom (FNF) are pleased to invite you toWit an expert exchange on the EU-India free trade negotiations and their challenges.
The new negotiations between India and the EU on a free trade agreement are marked by a paradox: they are simpler and more complex at the same time than ever before. They are simpler as the two partners are now more aligned on geopolitical issues than ever, especially with regard to China. They are also more complicated since the success of the negotiations still depends on difficult concessions of both sides. This expert exchange will discuss the current negotiations and the ways to avoid a situation such as in 2013. Another failed negotiation process is not an option for either India or the EU in terms of the future of their strategic partnership.
For this event, Chatham House rules will apply.
