“Women in Politics” 2022 Visiting Program
Breaking the Barriers: Empowering women’s political participation in the MENA region
In collaboration with FNF Jordan, FNF Europe and the International Academy for Leadership (IAF) we visited Berlin and Brussels from September 25th to October 1st. This program mainly focused on enhancing essential advocacy skills and enriching the impact of female leaders in defending women’s rights. Our delegations from Lebanon and Jordan consisted of influential female leaders and activists who work in the field of political participation and civic engagement in politics.
Our delegation met with MPs Ria Schröder, Anikó Merten, and Katrin Helling-Plahr in the German Bundestag and discussed women’s issues in Germany and how female politicians work towards female-friendly solutions through public policies.
In Brussels, our delegation met with the brilliant team behind The Alliance of Her and learned more about the work that they do to increase liberal women's political participation in Europe. The delegation also met with Jules Maaten, regional director at FNF Brussels, and discussed relations between Europe and the MENA region.
To wrap it up, our female leaders and activists from Lebanon and Jordan visited the EEAS in Brussels, where they got to meet with European diplomats who work on the MENA region. They then met with MEP Samira Rafaela at the European parliament and had an insightful conversation about the challenges that women still face in the political sphere and how to elevate the fight for women’s political representation, both in Europe and the MENA region.
