Living Freedom Songwriting Contest
Do you know what's special about music and freedom?
They’re not just universal, they’re both within you! Express your freedom through a song!
We’re inviting music artists from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao to join our songwriting contest. Five finalists will have the chance to compete through an online show. The song that will emerge on top will compete and collaborate with their counterparts from Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, and Thailand in the regional level with a chance to go to Germany.
Your music transcend a message of positivity and many possibilities for yourself, your country and your fellow countrymen, a tune of greater hope for a brighter tomorrow anchored on greater freedoms.
Living Freedom Songwriting contest highlights the importance of self-expression, people’s participation and the importance of standing up for freedom, especially in times when democracy is challenged. It conveys hope and a call to action that freedom will never fail to pull us through from any crises and we all have a responsibility to shape our own future. It’s about striking a chord and generating emotions of positivity, to restart and embrace new opportunities and become the best of ourselves. The contest creates harmony, a common tune to always defend freedom.
The contest is organized by the Friedrich Naumann Foundation – Philippines, a German political organization and an innovative platform that translates complex concepts of freedom into a language that is more relatable to Filipinos.
Learn and let your music be heard!
Call for entries will start on 29 May 2020. A pre-screening committee will evaluate all the entries and the top 10 compositions will be screened by our esteemed mentor-judges. From there, 5 finalists will be chosen to be mentored, perform and compete for the top spot through an online concert.
The top song will represent the Philippines to the regional rounds where they will undergo an online masterclass to help them enhance their music composition. They will collaborate with the other participants from the region and produce a song that will reflect the region’s solidarity efforts and commitment to freedom.
In November 2020, should COVID-19 situations permit, the group will fly to Manila, Philippines for the finals where they will perform their individual and group compositions before a live audience. The regional top song will be announced on this event, who will get the chance to go to Germany.
