The 2nd Global Innovation Conference was held in Kuala Lumpur, 23 August 2019 and was well attended by corporate sectors, academicians, and start-ups. As the organizer, Saora Industries, successfully shared the message of the importance of sustaining clean water and supporting the progress towards achieving the objectives of SDG 6.

One of the efforts shown was having participants conduct an industrial visit to an office building in Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur, which applies low-energy consumption. It’s an office building which features energy efficiency and passed the standard of the Green Building Index.

To name a few green issues that this building has are rainwater harvesting, compost bins, and solar panels. The rainwater harvesting system is 100% used for irrigation (i.e. watering plants) and flushing toilets. Around 290 m3 of rainwater harvested annually which is equivalent to 36% of potable water demand. The on-site composting allows building users to be involved and educated in organic waste processing and to contribute to the building landscape sustainability. The solar panel on the other hand only offsets 6% of the building energy consumption.

As a call for action of this conference, participants are expected to create a plan of their own green building based on the knowledge received. By doing so, the awareness of the importance of having environment-friendly and low-energy buildings will become higher and visible.
