Youth Expression on ASEAN-EU Partnership

In a poster-making for college students, culture and trade were highlighted as the means on how ASEAN and EU could engage with one another.  Six students from Metro Manila created artworks on the spot with the theme “ASEAN fEUture: Prospects for a Brighter ASEAN-EU Partnership” in a side event at the yoEUth debate at the De La Salle University (DLSU) Manila on 23 May 2017.

The artworks revealed impressions of the youth on the integration of ASEAN and EU in different aspects of the society.  Grand prize and popular vote winner Joshua Villena from iACADEMY depicted the two regional blocs as a colorful portrait masterpiece reflecting collaborations and partnerships in infrastructure projects, business investments, cultural goods, and other development systems to ensure progress.

Members of the jury were Pol Medina of Pugad Baboy, Glorife Samodio of DLSU Culture and Arts Office, and Walter van Hattum of the EU Delegation in the Philippines. The entries were judged based on relevance to the theme, originality, creativity, and presentation. “We are very excited that this poster making is taking place. It is enlightening that the youth still has their hopes up for our country’s development,” said Medina.

The contest was organized by Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom, in partnership with DLSU Manila, and the EU Delegation in the Philippines. This side-event aims the involvement of the young in issues of economic development in a creative manner.
