Strengthening Jordan-Germany Ties: A Gathering of Humboldt

Amman, Jordan – The Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom (FNF-MENA) hosted a distinguished gathering on the evening of Saturday, 22 March 2025, bringing together esteemed members of the Jordanian Club of Humboldt Fellows (JCHF) and distinguished guests. The event, held in Amman, served as a platform to emphasize the vital role of the Humboldt Foundation in strengthening the academic and intellectual ties between Jordan and Germany.
The evening commenced with a warm welcome from Ayah Al Majali, representing FNF-MENA, who expressed her delight in meeting once again with such an esteemed group of scholars, professionals, and partners. She highlighted the significance of the longstanding collaboration between Jordan and Germany, particularly through academic and research exchanges facilitated by the Humboldt Foundation.
“This is not our first meeting, and it’s always a pleasure to gather with such distinguished guests and partners,” she remarked. “Through our continued cooperation, we hope to further enhance mutual understanding and strengthen ties between our two countries. Together, we can explore ways to improve collaboration and friendship, focusing on shared values, opportunities, and progress.”

The event featured keynote remarks from prominent speakers, each underscoring the critical role of the Humboldt Foundation in advancing education, research, and cross-cultural engagement. Marwan Mousa, President of the JCHF, spoke about the club’s mission and the impact of academic collaborations between Jordanian and German scholars.

Jörg Dehnert, Regional Director MENA of FNF, emphasized the importance of expanding collaboration with Humboldt Fellows not only in Jordan but across the region. He reiterated FNF’s commitment to fostering intellectual exchange and supporting innovative ideas that contribute to sustainable development.
Adding an academic perspective, Professor Dr. Sultan Abu Orabi, a Humboldtian and President of Tishk International University in Erbil, highlighted the transformative influence of international academic partnerships. His insights resonated with attendees, emphasizing how such initiatives have paved the way for groundbreaking research and capacity-building endeavors.
In a diplomatic address, H.E. Mr. Guido Kemmerling, Deputy Ambassador of Germany in Jordan, reaffirmed Germany’s dedication to strengthening bilateral ties with Jordan through education, research, and institutional partnerships. He praised the efforts of both the Humboldt Foundation and FNF-MENA in creating avenues for collaboration, enabling scholars and professionals to engage in meaningful exchanges that benefit both nations.
The evening concluded with an open discussion, where participants explored ways to further enhance cooperation between Jordan and Germany. Conversations centered on fostering academic mobility, supporting joint research projects, and expanding networks that promote knowledge-sharing and innovation.
