What is freedom?
We are free if we
• are not owned by others (freedom is the opposite of slavery)
• are not subject to the arbitrary whims of people wielding power
• think and decide for ourselves and live our lives as we want
• can make use of opportunities and pursue our ambitions
• own property (that makes us more autonomous and less dependent on others)
• enjoy civil liberties and political rights (as they exist in liberal democracies), including the right to freedom of expression and freedom of association.
