Freedom Week 2015 in East and Southeast Europe

About 2.6 billion people still live without freedom, a shocking revelation from the latest World Freedom Index. In September 2015 we will come together to celebrate Freedom Week to stand up for those that are denied this basic human right. As Freedom Week begins, individuals and countries will be contributing to raising awareness for a world of freedom and help push for solutions in bringing about change in the injustices that continue to rob people of their ability to truly live freely.

This year Freedom Week will be celebrated across different countries in the world from a “25 Years of Promoting Freedom” international conference in Bulgaria to an epic “Freedom Run” event in the Philippines. From its inception in 2014 in the region of Southeast and East Asia, this initiative is evolving now into an annual worldwide celebration with the aim of garnering even more public participation this year.

In the region of East and Southeast Europe Freedom Week 2015 will take place for the first year now from Monday 14 September to Saturday 26 September. You can choose to attend any of the 14 events in 8 cities in 5 offices of the Foundation in the region. Join the movement by attending the event page in Facebook, where you will get further information for every event. Please share your Freedom Week experiences and freedom messages by using the hashtag #freedomweek2015.

For us liberals, freedom is the most important value. For over 50 years, the Foundation has worked with different stakeholders in helping societies reach their full potential through democratic processes and open markets. From providing civic education to working directly with governments, FNF continues to promote freedom and empower individuals to take control of defining and defending freedom for all.

“As an organization that is dedicated to this central value, we want to celebrate Freedom Week in many countries, in many ways and in many aspects to remind us of its importance, its complexity and its challenges”, says Dr. Rainer Adam, the Regional Director for FNF East and Southeast Europe.
