Visit of Ulrich Niemann, the Head of Division International Politics

High-ranking visitor from Potsdam, Germany: Ulrich Niemann, the Head of the division International Politics of Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom (FNF), recently came to South Korea. It was especially meaningful for him and FNF Korea’s old partners on account of his career as former resident representative of FNF’s Seoul based office.

He made a tour all around Seoul meeting partners and friends of the foundation during his five-days-visit. One highlight was a meeting with Kim Chong-yang, Chairman of the foundation of FNF’s long-term partner Hanyang University. During their talk both gentlemen stressed the relevance of the partnership between FNF and the university and ensured to strengthen their cooperation.

In addition to his meetings with the heads of FNF partner institutes such as Jeju Peace Institute and the Youth Alliance for the Future of Korea Mr. Niemann gave some input to the discussion on the Euro Crisis with the researchers from think-tanks FNF cooperates with: the Korea Economic 

Research Institute and Institute for Far Eastern Studies. Another highlight of his stay in Seoul was an evening event with FNF former scholarship holders from Korea.

Mr. Niemann served as the resident representative of FNF Korea from 2002 to 2006 and was promoted afterward to Regional Director of Central, South East and East Europe, South Caucasus and Central Asia before he assumed his current position in 2010. In his time in Korea FNF’s activities in Pyongyang were initiated.
