Workshop in Pyongyang on Water related issues
At the end of April, a delegation of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom Korea (FNF) visited the DPRK. Professor Matthias Barjenbruch, Technical University Berlin, and Mr. Henner Schmidt, Environmental Politics expert from the Berlin state parliament, conducted the workshop “Sustainable Development Goal 6 and experiences from Germany”. FNF and the Ministry of Land and Environment Protection jointly organized the workshop.
More than 60 experts from various ministries, universities and relevant agencies joined the workshop. The participants were actively participating, engaging in discussions on the issues related to the SDG 6 (“Ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all”) and Germanys efforts to achieve this goal.
Besides the workshop, the delegation visited various water related institutions. Amongst others, the delegation visited the research institute for urban management, the water reservoir Hungbu and the west sea barrage near Nampo. Experts from the DPRK and the invited experts from Germany engaged in detailed discussion about water issues and water resource management. Both sides agreed that climate change poses a great threat and that both countries should further exchange ideas on how to tackle this common challenge.
FNF thanks its co-organizers and all participants for their tremendous contributions that made this workshop so successful.
