FREEDOM CONCERTS
The Freedom Show, Online with Bobi Wine
Ugandan musician turned politician, Hon. Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine partners with FNF Africa for a LIVE online concert that took place on Sunday, 28 June 2020 with over 300,000 LIVE views online.
The recipient of the 2019 FNF Africa Freedom Prize and Nubian LI hosted the concert on Lake Nalubaale (Lake Victoria) in Uganda. This was the second online concert hosted by Bobi Wine who often has his public events invaded by Ugandan state officials. The Ugandan Member of Parliament is running for President in Uganda's 2022 elections. The concert was filled with political messaging with the MP calling for the scrapping of Uganda's social media tax, the ending of human rights violations as well as highlighting the need for free and fair elections in Uganda's upcoming elections.
"When the going gets tough the tough get going, especially when leaders become misleaders, when freedom of expressoion becomes a target of suppression, when democracy becomes impossible, the necesary must be done." said the critic of President Yoweri Museveni, who has been Uganda's President since 1986.
The event also put a spotlight on the political challenges in Africa as a result of measures taken by governments against the spread of the Coronavirus. With this concert, we look to Africans to focus on unity, social inclusion and freedom at this time. We look to Africans to find solutions together, for Africans to continue the fight for freedom, the freedom from Covid-19 and the fight for freedom from oppressive, dictatorship governments.
