VN Good Books Award

Ho Chi Minh City – Tu nha nuoc dieu hanh sang nha nuoc kien tao phat trien (From A Commanding State To A Developmental State) won the 8th SachHay Book Award in Economics in the annual Vietnamese Good Books Awards.

The book emphasizes the need to institutionalize reforms in economic liberalization to ensure sustainable benefits of a market economy. It compiles relevant theories as well as practical experiences from other countries around the world to strengthen arguments for the transition from a commanding state, where economic activities are directed by administrative orders, to a fully functioning developmental state, transforming the state’s function in relation to the market.

Edited by Dinh Tuan Minh and Pham The Anh, the book is a result of collaborative research project in 2016 by the leading academic and think tank groups in Vietnam: Central Institute for Economic Management (CIEM), VIE, and Vietnam Institute for Economic and Policy Research (VEPR). The business association Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), and the German Foundation Friedrich Naumann Stiftung für die Freiheit (FNF) were also part of the initiative.

SachHay Book Award is an annual book award since 2012 given by education organizations: IRED Institute of EducationPhan Chau Trinh Foundation, and OpenEdu Initiative. The recognition aims to encourage the publication of quality books, and spread the value of good books in society.
