Security and Human Rights
International Summer School on Security and/or Human Rights
We are delighted to reflect on a truly international and enriching week at our summer school program, titled "Security and/or Human Rights: Unpacking the Dilemma of Migration Policies." Held in Mardin, Türkiye, this event provided a unique opportunity for participants from various countries to come together and explore critical issues at the crossroads of security and human rights.
Our journey began with a warm welcome and an engaging ice-breaking session. It was a fantastic chance for our diverse group of participants to connect, share experiences, and set the stage for an exciting week of cross-cultural learning and collaboration.
Throughout the program, participants experienced thought-provoking lectures by esteemed experts such as Rick Lawson from Leiden Law School, Jonas Grimheden from Frontex, Jelena Pejic from the ICRC-Geneva, Farah Karimi from the OSCE PA, Anusha Zubairy from Kızılay Türkiye, Eylül Başak Tuncel and Ekin Akmanoğlu from the UNHCR Türkiye and Olgun Akbulut from Kadir Has University Law School. The discussions were not only intellectually stimulating but also highlighted the rich tapestry of global perspectives on security and human rights. Learning and fun went hand in hand, as participants engaged in lively debates and shared their unique insights during group workshops. Participants gained a deeper understanding of complex issues through these expert-led sessions and enjoyed hands-on learning during case workshops and interactive activities.
Cultural excursions to historical sites added a unique dimension to the learning experience, allowing participants to connect with the local culture and history.
As our summer school program concluded, participants departed with more than just knowledge; they left with new friendships, a broader world view, and a shared commitment to making a positive impact on the world. The blend of learning and fun created an unforgettable experience that will resonate with them for years to come.
