New Head for the Foundation in the Western Balkans
The Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom in Belgrade has a new director for its activities in the Western Balkans. In mid-August, Markus Kaiser took over from his predecessor Michael Roick, who is leaving the region after three years. The 42-year-old, who is now in charge of the Foundation’s work in Serbia, Croatia, Bosnia & Herzegovina and Kosovo, previously worked as Head of Unit for Europe at the Foundation's headquarters in Potsdam.
"I am very excited about this new task, which is challenging and rewarding at the same time. Challenging because the region is complex, both politically and in terms of civil society. Rewarding because I have found a great team here that is doing excellent work on relevant topics."
The staunch supporter of an "ever closer union of the peoples of Europe" comes to the Western Balkans after stations in Brussels, Athens and Potsdam. He holds a master's degree in political science.
