What is the Tech Radar?

In recent years, we have all witnessed the rapid pace of technological change and its deep impact on society. With this transformation comes both immense opportunity and new risks, requiring smart, informed policymaking. However, the speed of technological advancement often outpaces the timeline of policymaking in democratic societies. To bridge this gap, we need foresight and the ability to anticipate technological shifts, enabling strategic decisions that keep us ahead of the curve. The "Tech Radar" series is designed to do just that—offering insights into emerging technologies to facilitate proactive preparation and informed responses. These briefs equip decision-makers with the knowledge and foresight to shape policies that not only foster innovation but also align with our shared liberal values.

Tech Radar Episode 1: Neuromorphic Engineering

The first episode of the Tech Radar assesses recent advancements in neuromorphic computing, a field having the potential to significantly impact the future of AI. Neuromorphic computing emulates the neural structure of the human brain, which offers promising benefits in edge computing, embedded AI, and optimization. Numerous countries are actively pursuing initiatives in this area, signaling its strategic importance on the global stage. To maintain its competitive edge and ensure techno- logical autonomy, Germany should prioritize targeted investments in neuromorphic research and development.
