New Research: Navigation Patterns in Jerusalem

We had a fascinating lecture and discussion by architect and urban planner, Dr. Malka Greenberg Raanan at מכון ירושלים למחקרי מדיניות - Jerusalem Institute for Policy Research on how young Jewish and Muslim women from Jerusalem’s various communities perceive the city and navigate through it in their everyday activities. The navigation patterns of the young women in the urban space are mainly influenced by ethnic and religious self – and "foreign" perception and by gender issues. The research highlights how divided Jerusalem is along its different communities (Arab, Israeli, ultraorthodox and secular) but also identifies potential for “safe common urban spaces”. The session was organized by the Jerusalem Study group of the מכון ירושלים למחקרי מדיניות - Jerusalem Institute for Policy Research supported by FNF Jerusalem.
