FNF Celebrates Landmark Anniversary in Jordan

The Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom (FNF Jordan) marked its 40th anniversary in Jordan, highlighting a four-decade-long partnership dedicated to promoting democratic values, economic empowerment, and civic engagement. The event brought together notable figures from the political, social, and economic sectors to honour this significant milestone.

Four Decades of Trust and Progress

The ceremony commenced with an address by Jörg Dehnert, Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa for FNF. Dehnert emphasized the enduring partnership between the foundation and Jordan, stressing the shared commitment to liberal democracy and individual liberty. "Jordan is an incredible host country that welcomed not only the foundation but also my family with open arms," he remarked, setting the tone for an evening of reflection on the accomplishments achieved through this collaboration.

A documentary video provided a poignant retrospective of FNF’s journey in Jordan, showcasing the Foundation's extensive efforts hand in hand with Jordanian partners and the government to promote democratic values, support economic growth, and nurture civic participation. The video highlighted key initiatives and their impacts, reinforcing the significant role FNF has played in Jordan's development.

Keynote Addresses by Distinguished Guests

Dr. René Klaff, Head of the International Department of Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom, delivered a keynote address, emphasizing Jordan’s strategic importance and development within FNF's regional operations. "We from the Friedrich-Naumann-Foundation for Freedom reflect on the remarkable journey that we were lucky enough to undertake to the extraordinary and exceptional host country Jordan with its rich tradition of hospitability and openness," he noted, highlighting the Foundation's role in fostering democratic principles and development across the Middle East.

German Ambassador to Jordan, Dr. Bertram von Moltke, followed with a speech on the vital role of political foundations in building bridges between societies. He commended FNF’s efforts to strengthen democracy and fostering socio-political discourse in Jordan. “The presence of political foundations such as FNF in Jordan is testament to their significant contributions to the country’s political modernization process,” he said, acknowledging the tangible impacts of FNF’s work with partners in Jordan.

Mr. Ulrich Lechte, the Foreign Policy Spokesman of the FDP parliamentary group in the Bundestag, underscored the importance of international cooperation in promoting democratic values and sustainable development. He commended the Friedrich Naumann Foundation's efforts in Jordan, noting the positive impact of their initiatives on the local community. H.E. Engineer Musa Al-Maaytah, Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Independent Election Commission and Former Minister of Political and Parliamentary Affairs, provided insights into the contributions of NGOs to Jordan’s democratisation efforts. "What freedom requires is a thorough evolution, not a revolution" he commented, H.E. continued by recognising FNF’s pivotal role in empowering youth and promoting political engagement.

Promoting Decentralization and Civic Engagement

The speakers reflected on the remarkable journey of FNF in Jordan, marked by a collaborative approach involving ministries, civil society organizations, and dedicated individuals.
