Power to X: A Game-Changer for Tunisia's Energy Sector
Power to X: Academic Research in Tunisia; Opportunities and Challenges

Power to X

FNF in Partnership with University of Engineers in Monastir (ENIM) hosted an event that focused on Power to X (PtX), a revolutionary concept that aims to transform electricity into various forms of energy, such as hydrogen, methane, and synthetic fuels. The event brought together experts from Tunisia and from around the world to share their knowledge and experiences in this field, highlighting the opportunities and challenges that Tunisia faces in adopting this technology.

The event kicked off with a series of keynote speeches from esteemed guests, including Professor Martin Kaltschmitt from the Hamburg University of Technology. Professor Kaltschmitt emphasized the importance of PtX in achieving a decarbonized energy system, citing its potential to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and mitigate climate change.

The first conference of the day focused on the PtX process, with experts discussing the various methods and technologies used to convert electricity into different forms of energy. The conference highlighted the challenges and limitations of the PtX process, including the need for efficient and cost-effective conversion technologies.

The second conference of the day was dedicated to green hydrogen, a key component of the PtX concept. Professor Kaltschmitt delivered an online presentation on the role of green hydrogen in bridging the energy transition, highlighting its potential to power transportation, industry, and buildings.

A panel discussion followed, featuring experts from academia, industry, and government. The panelists discussed the opportunities and challenges associated with implementing PtX technology in Tunisia, including the need for policy support, infrastructure development, and public awareness.

The event also included a posters session, where researchers and students presented their work on various aspects of PtX, including energy storage, conversion technologies, and applications.

Opportunities and Challenges

The event highlighted several opportunities and challenges associated with implementing PtX technology in Tunisia. On the opportunities side, PtX offers a potential solution to Tunisia's energy challenges, including energy security, energy access, and climate change mitigation. The technology has the potential to create new industries and jobs, and to reduce the country's dependence on imported fossil fuels.

However, the event also highlighted several challenges that Tunisia faces in adopting PtX technology. These include the need for significant investment in infrastructure, the development of new conversion technologies, and the need for policy support and public awareness.

The Power to X event in Tunisia was a significant step forward in promoting academic research and collaboration in this field. The event brought together experts from around the world to share their knowledge and experiences, and highlighted the opportunities and challenges associated with implementing PtX technology in Tunisia.

As Tunisia continues to develop its energy sector, it is essential that the country prioritizes the adoption of PtX technology. With the right policy support, infrastructure development, and public awareness, Tunisia can unlock the potential of PtX and achieve a more sustainable and decarbonized energy future.
