NKVD ethnic operations

podcast cover

With the support of FNF Russia in Exile the Memorial Society released a podcast In English about NKVD ethnic operations made between 1937 and 1938.

During these years Soviet's repressive organ responsible for purges, arrests and murders - People's Commissariat for Internal Affairs -  conducted a series of systematic ethnic purges targeting non-Soviet nationalities in the USSR, including Poles, Germans, Finns, Latvians, Greeks, and others. These preplanned operations resulted in the execution of approximately 243,000 individuals, accounting for about one-third of all executions during the Great Terror. How were these atrocities perpetrated, who were the victims, and what are the current implications, given that the memory of these victims is now used by Russian authorities for manipulation?

Answers to these questions find in the podcast.
